(WIBW) - A year after making its first state title appearance since 1993, Riley County football is carrying the confidence needed to get back there.
The Falcons return 15 lettermen and eight starters from that team. Head coach Steve Wagner sees his players believing early.
"Confidence plays a big role in football and I think that helps with the confidence level," Wagner said of last year's run. "I think it's something you realize you can do."
"I think we're definitely fully capable of making a run for it again," senior running back/linebacker Deon Barnes said. "We lost of course some talent, but we've got a lot of energy and are ready to go."
Riley County also feels good having its starting quarterback return in Garrett Harmison. A year after lighting it up for the Falcons, Wagner only expects his veteran leader to improve.
"There's something magical about being a senior," Wagner said. "He did such a good job last year from day one when he got put into the starting quarterback position. We run a new offense and the offense fit him well. So his leadership has carried on from last year."
