(WIBW) -- On Tuesday, Junction City High School announced the hiring of Tim Testa as the new girls' basketball coach.

Testa, an alumnus of JCHS, is currently the head track and cross country coach at Southwestern College. He will start teaching in the physical education department for the Blue Jays at the start of next school year.

"I am beyond excited to be back in Junction City and working with its youth," Testa said via the school's press release. "The girls basketball program has a strong history and it is my goal to help the girls regain some of that. Being able to run a program in my hometown is a tremendous honor."

Prior to coaching at Southwestern, Testa taught P.E. at Junction City Middle School and coached boys basketball, track and cross country at both the middle and high school levels.

"We are very excited to welcome Tim and his family back to Junction City," said Matt Westerhaus, JCHS' athletic director. "Tim's love and passion for coaching, teaching and his pride in Junction City High School and our community will be very welcomed. Our students, families and community will be very excited with the energy and enthusiasm that Tim will bring to (the) girls' basketball program."

The school's press release said students, families and the community can meet Testa on April 25 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the high school.
