TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The second frame doomed both Washburn teams in a Saturday afternoon match-up with Central Missouri.
The men's team entered the game in first place in the MIAA and played like it in the first half, scoring 32 points while holding UCM to just 19.
The second half saw Washburn's shooting turn cold, making only six field goals and being outscored 44-23 by the Mules who won 63-55.
Washburn was 2-for-17 from 3-point range, including 0-for-7 in the second half.
Tyas Martin led Washburn with 13 points, and Brady Skeens added 10 points and 14 rebounds.
In the women's game, the Ichabods outscored the Jennies in every quarter except one - the second. The Ichabods lost 72-63 to the undefeated Jennies.
Reagan Phelan drained a buzzer-beater from behind the arc to give Washburn an 18-17 lead after the first quarter. Central Missouri dominated the second quarter, outscoring Washburn 22-8 to lead 39-26 at halftime.
Washburn was unable to overcome the deficit despite outscoring UCM in the third and fourth quarter.
Phelan led Washburn with 19 points. Alexis McAfee scored 17 while Axelle Bernard added 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Both Washburn teams take the floor again on Feb. 1 against Nebraska-Kearney.
