(WIBW) -- The Emporia State University football team broke .500 on Saturday with a 41 to 23 victory over the University of Central Missouri. The Hornets now sit at 4-3 on the season after their third win over the Mules in their last four meetings.
ESU's offense got off to a good start, scoring a touchdown on their first three drives, while the defense only allowed 10 points on UCM's first five drives.
Quarterback Braxton Marstall finished 24 of 33 for 278 yards with two touchdowns, as well as adding 63 yards on 15 carries for an additional two touchdowns.
On the ground, the Hornets were led by running back Landon Nault who churned out his third 100-yard rushing game of the season. Nault strung together 114 yards on 21 carries for one touchdown.
Wide receiver Tyler Harris led Emporia State with seven catches for 92 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Logan Thompson registered nine tackles and an interception, while Jace McDown tacked on nine tackles as well, and 2.0 tackles for loss.
Parker Bass added five tackles on top of his 74-yard fumble return for a touchdown--a score which marked the Hornets' first defensive touchdown since September of 2017.
Emporia State hosts Missouri Western at Welch Stadium for Homecoming. That game kicks off at 2 p.m.
