Grand Champions! Topeka West band wins big at Outback Bowl

TAMPA, Fla. (WIBW) -- The Topeka West Charger band hasn't even taken the field at the Outback Bowl and they already know they will be coming home as, not only, champions - but Grand Champions.

The band and band director Barry Evans took home a slew of awards Monday night at the Outback Bowl's awards ceremony, including:

  • Grand Champion - Parade competition
  • 1st place - Outback Bowl Parade Crowd Pleaser Award
  • 1st place - Jazz band competition
  • 1st place - parade marching competition
  • 2nd place - Field competition
  • It was a terrific performance that's certain to leave the whole Charger community proud.

    But, the band members aren't done yet! They'll take the field Tuesday at halftime of the Outback Bowl. The game between the 18th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Iowa Hawkeyes kicks off at 11 a.m.
