Golden Giants win Cowdin Cup in five-inning game

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- In a decisive, rain-shortened game three of the Cowdin Cup, the Topeka Golden Giants used a big first inning to win the championship.

The Golden Giants beat the Junction City Brigade 9-0 in five innings to win the team's first Cowdin Cup.

Topeka jumped out to an 8-0 lead in a first inning that included two batters getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. There were also a few walks with the bases loaded in the inning.

Golden Giants starter Zach Ebert threw a complete game shutout.

The Golden Giants finished the 2017 season with a record of 22-11-1.
