LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - KU men's hoops is losing one of its freshman guards.
Issac McBride announced in a Twitter message that he is leaving the Jayhawks and the program confirmed the news. McBride signed with the team in November of 2018.
"I decided that the program was not a good fit for me," McBride said in a message posted to Twitter. "I will continue to pursue a future basketball career. I would like to thank the basketball staff at KU. Most importantly, I would like to thank my family, especially my dad, who has supported me through this decision."
"We are all disappointed that Issac made this decision, basically on Tuesday," KU men's basketball head coach Bill Self said. "After discussing with his family, everybody came to the conclusion that this was not a good fit. We wish Issac the best."
McBride was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and the top-rated player from the state of Arkansas for the class of 2019. He was the 2019 Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year while playing at Baptist Preparatory School.
