Emporia's Scheve wins Centennial League tournament; Rural wins team title

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Fairways and greens were tough to find on a windy afternoon at Shawnee Country Club during the Centennial League Tournament.

Emporia sophomore Gentry Scheve managed two to sink two birdies during the round, shooting a 78 to win the title.

"I wasn't playing the greatest, but no one in my group was," Scheve said. "I knew that if I just kept it and held it together and came in with something in the 70s, I'd have a pretty good chance."

Washburn Rural's Parker Beal, coming off a win at the City Tournament last week, finished one shot behind. He helped lead Washburn Rural to the team title.
