EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - After riding a third-quarter surge, Emporia State fell flat in the fourth on Homecoming to fall to Missouri Western.
The Griffons outscored the Hornets 22-0 in the final quarter to win 42-28. This whole game really was decided in streaks.
After taking a 7-0 lead, Emporia State fell victim to a run of 20 unanswered points from the Griffons. Then the Hornets came back with 21 unanswered points of their own to lead 28-21.
But it was Missouri Western who streaked away last in the final quarter. James Bailey Jr. scored four touchdowns for the Griffons.
Braxton Marstall threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns, finding Tyler Harris often. Harris finished with 117 yards and two touchdowns.
Next up for Emporia State is a road trip to rival Washburn on Oct. 27.
