Emporia State, Washburn combine for 25 All-MIAA selections

(WIBW) -- On Tuesday, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced the 2018 All-MIAA teams.

Emporia State and Washburn combined to net 25 All-MIAA selections.

Quarterback Braxton Marstall headlined the Hornets 12 postseason honors, earning Offensive Player of the Year and first team signal caller. Marstall is just the fourth Hornet to earn the title, joining Brent Wilson in 2015, Lester McCoy in 1999 and Brian Shay in 1997.

ESU running back Landon Nault, receiver Justin Brown, offensive lineman Austin Unterreiner, defensive lineman Parker Bass and linebacker Jace McDown all earned second team honors.

Six Hornets were named honorable mention, including receiver Tyler Harris, offensive linemen Estevan Arana and Braden Janzen, defensive linemen Marek Thompson and Tre'vaun Ammons and linebacker Gary Woods II.

Washburn had 13 total selections, including four first team selections.

Receiver James Brania-Hopp, offensive lineman Kyle Hinton, linebacker Derrick McGreevy and defensive back Corey Ballentine represented the Ichabods among first team selections.

Ballentine was also selected as a third team return specialist.

Lineback Austin Tillman and punter Perry Schmiedeler were named to the All-MIAA second team.

Washburn also had six players earn honorable mentions, including tight end Marcus Meier, offensive linemen Colton Dunkle and Jake Riederer, defensive lineman Landen Urban and defensive backs Heath Tucker and Josh Wright.
