Chiefs open Arrowhead with New Field

The Kansas City Chiefs unveiled a new look for Arrowhead Stadium for the home opener. The end zones will be gold and a helmet will be at center field.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) Chiefs Kingdom has patiently awaited the return of their Chiefs, and they'll see a new look come kick off. The field has been painted differently for the season opener.

The "new-look" field is more reminiscent of days past. The end zone was painted gold, which is similar to the end zone color from when the Chiefs played at Municipal Stadium. Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt is said to have originally wanted the gold color to "dress up the old place with colorful end zones - unique for their time," according to Chiefs.com

When the Chiefs moved to Arrowhead Stadium in 1972, the end zone has been known for being left green.

At center field, there will be a small helmet instead of the usual Arrowhead.

This is in celebration of the franchise's 60th anniversary. The Chiefs haven't said yet if the changes will be a permanent change for the season or a single game occurrence.
