TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Jim Zahourek always wanted to play baseball. But he said he wasn't allowed to as a left-hander.
Many years later after serving in the Navy instead, the 95-year-old threw out the first pitch before the Topeka Golden Giants beat the Sabetha Bravos 6-0 on Monday night. It was a special moment for Zahourek, as he's been going to Golden Giants games for the past 10 years.
"I get a great big kick out of them because they play real good," Zahourek said. "They put their heart into the game and I just love to see that because I didn't get to play baseball, I had to go to the Navy. But I enjoyed the Navy too. But it's a privilege to do this."
