Grandma’s Overnight Coffee Cake


2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter or margarine
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla

2/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ cup chopped nuts, optional


· Stir together and set aside the first four ingredients (the flour mixture).

· In a separate mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugars.

· Add eggs; beat until fluffy.

· Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

· Add vanilla and mix.

· Pour into greased 9x13 pan.

· Sprinkle with topping.

· Cover. Let stand in refrigerator overnight or bake immediately.

· Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
