The A.B.A.T.E. Toys for Tots Ride brings Christmas to children
Motorcyclists revved their engines for a great cause Sunday afternoon.
The A.B.A.T.E. of Kansas Dist. 4 held their annual "Toys for Tots Ride" to help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope.
"Just to see their faces on Christmas to see how excited they get to open a gift," Toys for Tots Coordinator of Topeka, Jamie Shipman said. "To think of a child not being able to experience that it's heartbreaking."
Donations and registration started a noon, and there were a trunk full of donations.
Shipman says she hopes that children can see that this campaign is to provide support.
"I hope they see that the generosity of people and that people really do care and want every child whether they are in need or not to have a Christmas and get that experience," Shipman explained.
U.S. Marine Corps, Matthew Moore says the "Toys for Tots" campaign has changed lives in the community, "we've have impacted a bunch of families around the Topeka community."
Hundreds of people came out to in support of the ride and donated a new toy.
"It's awesome just to see the community coming together and getting all these toys in need just really shows like how this community cares for everybody," Moore said.
After receiving donations, riders traveled from Walmart to American Legion Post 400, led by the Topeka Police Department
"They want to get that presence out there so people see and are like, Oh I wonder what's going on, and then they'll notice they're doing it for toys for tots and maybe spread awareness and donate toys," Shipman said.
A.B.A.T.E believes you can make a difference in children's lives by donating.
"Your looking at over 20,000 children this year that we're going to be able to help so anything helps," Shipman said.
If you were unable to make it out to the ride, the Marine Corps have donation boxes around the county. The toy must be unwrapped in order to be accepted.
Donation boxes are locally located at Walmart, Credit Union, and insurance companies in Topeka.
