Van crumples against side of tractor trailer in Hwy. 24 wreck

A driver suffered only minor injuries when his van ended up crumpled against a semi trailer in North Topeka.

The wreck happened around 7 p.m. Friday in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 24, just east of the intersection with N. Kansas Ave.

The van somehow slammed into the back corner of the big rig. The passenger side bore the brunt of the impact, crumpling it, while the driver's side remained intact. The van's driver was taken to the hospital, but appeared to escape any serious injuries.

The truck's driver was not hurt.

Westbound Hwy. 24 was closed in the area while authorities investigated. Traffic was diverted to a frontage road, where drivers were able to back onto Kansas Ave. to return to the highway.
