JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A person has been cited for animal cruelty after allegedly dumping a dog along the side of an alley in Junction City last week.

The dog was abandoned on April 12 in the 1000 block of Adams St. Surveillance video from a nearby home recorded the black SUV stopping in the alley. The passenger-side door opens and the driver appears to pass off the dog to the passenger who deposited the dog onto the road.

The video showed the abandoned pooch looking around for a moment as no one got out then scampering around as the vehicle drove off. The recording ended with the dog chasing after the SUV as it sped away.

The Junction City/Geary Co. Animal Shelter posted the video on its Facebook page Monday asking for anyone who has information about the incident to contact the Junction City Police Dept.

On Tuesday, police received a tip about who may have dumped the pup, JCPD Capt. Trish Giordano told 13 NEWS. An animal control officer went and spoke to the woman and issued her a citation. The other person in the vehicle is believed to be the woman's daughter.

Authorities have not released her name.

In an update on its Facebook page, the shelter expressed its appreciation for everyone involved.

"Thank you all SOOO much for sharing the video and all of the help we have received. And a HUGE kudos to our Junction City, Kansas Police Department and our Animal Control Officer for following through with these tips to track down the subject!!"
