KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) — One person was killed and several injured in a 40-vehicle wreck on I-70 east of Kansas City, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened near the Oak Grove interchange and Westbound lanes of I-70 were closed near there.
Kansas City is gripped by white-out conditions Friday afternoon. The Mo. Dept. of Transportation travel maps indicate the road is snow-covered.
MHP is asking drivers to avoid I-70 in eastern Jackson Co. and Lafayette Co. altogether. KCTV5 reports multiple crashes involving passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers.
Another crash involving several semi-trailer trucks closed the interstate near Concordia, and other serious crashes were reported near St. Joseph and Columbia.
Kansas City's city manager Tryoy Schulte is urging business to let their workers go home early in order to ease rush hour traffic when road conditions may be at their worst.
