TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Construction continues at 29th and Fairlawn on the planned Wheatfield Village, but work in that area has been going on for over a year.
When land owners pitched the idea of Wheatfield Village, they said it was going to be a new destination for Topekans and visitors.
Development plans submitted to the Topeka City Council show Wheatfield Village will have a hotel, restaurants, movie theater, event plaza and even apartments.
When ground was broke early this year, land owner and businesses man Jim Klausman had hoped the restaurants and hotel would be near completion by now.
Skyeye 13 shows that a foundation for the theater, and two restaurant locations has been laid, but not for the hotel or the apartments.
According to plans, the hotel would be 88 rooms from TowneSuites by Marriott hotel. The 9-screen theater will be run by B&B Theaters.
Restaurants will include PT’s Coffee, SPIN! Pizza and Johnny’s Tavern.
The second phase of the project includes construction of a 178-unit apartment complex.
The City of Topeka that there is a TIF to take affect once the project is complete, but they don’t know when the project will be finished.
Jennifer Sourk, General Counsel for Wheatfield sent a written statement saying, "Wheatfield is progressing (with) construction with local contractors and local ownership. It is anticipated that the restaurants will be open in late spring/early summer of 2019 and the Marriott Springhill Suites and B&B Theater opening in 2020."
