TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- All non-essential state employees in Shawnee Co. were allowed to go home at 2 p.m. after Gov. Laura Kelly made an "Inclement Weather" declaration.

The declaration lasts until 11:50 p.m. Tuesday.

It covers all non-essential State of Kansas Executive Branch employees who work in Shawnee Co.

The state Judicial Center was closed a half-hour later.

The Governor's Office says it will reassess weather conditions later in the day to determine if the declaration needs to be extended.
