Washburn men end season in first round of NCAA Tournament

MARYVILLE, Mo. (WIBW) -- Despite rallying from a 20-point deficit to a one-point deficit with 38 seconds remaining, the Washburn men's basketball team fell to Missouri Southern on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional.

The Ichabods finish their season 24-7 after the 101-100 loss.

No. 6 Missouri Southern led 51-41 at halftime. No. 3 Washburn then surged to notch 59 points in the second half, but could not get past the one-point hump.

Javion Blake led the Ichabods with 24 points, followed by Tyas Martin with a career-high 22. Martin went 10 of 13 from the field and scored the game's first seven points.

Overall, Washburn had five double-digit scorers including Blake, Martin, David Salach and Jalen Lewis with 16 and Tyler Geiman with 11.

The Ichabods' 24 wins this season were the most in a single season since winning 25 seven years ago.

Washburn's 100 points also set a season high and moved the program to 69-5 when scoring at least 100 points, and 0-2 when scoring at least 100 in the NCAA Tournament.

Blake finished his college career with 1,829 points, good for third on Washburn's all-time points chart, tied for second on the 3-point chart (212) and third in the assists chart (322).
