TOPEKA (WIBW)-- Standoff between Topeka Police and a wanted fugitive ends peacefully.

TPD tells 13 NEWS, the U.S. Marshal had information about a fugitive that led them to a neighborhood off SW 37th and Gage.

Topeka Police say the Marshals Task Force was looking for Thomas Kent of Topeka, for a weapons violation charge.

Their investigation led them to an apartment in the 3600 block of Skyline Parkway.

Law enforcement arrived around 7:00 p.m., Wednesday night, they say Kent climbed onto the roof in an attempt to flee.

TPD says near-freezing weather conditions caused Kent to surrender about an hour later.

Initial reports indicated Kent had a gun, however, he was unarmed while surrendering. Topeka Police later confirmed to 13 NEWS that a gun believed to be related to the standoff was found Thursday morning.

Authorities say a woman who was in an apartment with Kent was offered medical attention and refused.

Kent has previously served time for theft, drug possession, fleeing police and criminal possession of a firearm.

The Kansas Highway Patrol, American Medical Response, and the Topeka Police Department assisted in the incident which is still being investigated.
