TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A local Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter is asking questions after a memorial in Garfield Park was vandalized last week.

VVA Chapter 604, out of Delia, says a bronze plaque with the names of Shawnee County veterans who died in the Vietnam war was stolen off a piece of stone. The plaque is about 2'x3'. Also missing are three "In Memory Of" name plaques on benches that were bought by family members.

VVA says the plaque was about $1,500 with the smaller ones about $100 each. They say Topeka Police have been notified and so have local scrap metal businesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 .
