Victims of violent crime receive financial assistance

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Over $220,000 was awarded to 334 victims of violent crimes by the Kansas Crime Victims Compensation Board.

Between 175 new cases and 159 previously submitted cases, the board is covering $221,613.64. in victim's expenses.

The board is part of the Crime Victim's Compensation program, which was established in 1978 to help victims pay for things like medical treatment, funerals, counseling, and lost wages.

The programs funds are provided through portions of court costs, inmate wages, parole fees, and restitution paid by convicted offenders.
