TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A tree is being credited with saving a family’s home after a van slammed into it.

According to Topeka Police, around 2:30a.m. Sunday, first responders were called to the 400 block of SW Lincoln after a van skidded through the intersection of SW Willow and Lincoln.

The van then jumped the curb, became airborne, hit a tree, and then spun before it hit the house.

Officers say if the van didn’t hit the tree, it could have fully impacted the home.

The driver was checked by EMS, and the given a field sobriety test. Following the test, he was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The house suffered minor damage, and no one inside was hurt.

Police say speed may have also been a contributing factor.
