TOPEKA (WIBW)-- We're learning new information about a crash in Auburn on Friday that pinned a 12-year-old under a vehicle.
It happened just before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Washington and 14th Street.
The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says it appears two children were playing with a soccer ball on the side of the road when the ball went into the street. One of the kids tried to stop the ball and tripped and fell, injuring his leg.
A driver of a silver Mazda didn't see the child on the roadway and hit him, pinning the child underneath the car.
Auburn fire crews mechanically lifted the vehicle off the child, who was then transported by AMR to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver was also taken to the hospital for precautionary purposes.
Dispatch did say, both roads were shut down, while law enforcement cleared the scene.
