Two young children were found dead Thursday following a Kansas City house fire.

firefighters were called around 2 p.m. to the duplex, near 35th and Woodland Ave., in Kansas City, Missouri. They quickly learned the children were still inside and rushed in, while other firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

The fire was put out within five to ten minutes, but the children, who are both under 2-years-old, did not survive.

Neighbors told KCTV5 a church recently purchased the property and the family who lived there were members of the church.

“I’m really sorry for their family,” said neighbor Leah Massey. “We’ll keep them in our prayers.”

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, which they believe started in the upstairs part of the home.
