EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) --- Two men were taken to the hospital after a crash on a Lyon Co. highway Monday morning.

The crash, which involved two vehicles, happened around 7:15 a.m. in the 300 block of West U.S. 50, in Emporia, the Lyon Co. Sheriff’s Office said.

Cody Maloney, of rural Emporia, was driving a Chevy Cobalt east on US-50, just east of road C, when Jonathon Dahlke, of Michigan, heading in the opposite direction crossed the center line.

Dahlke's Ford F350 pulling a travel trailer struck the front driver's side of Maloney's Chevy Cobalt, according to authorities.

Maloney had to be extricated from his Cobalt by Emporia and Lyon Co. rescue. He was taken to Newman Regional Hospital with injuries, Dep. Jody Meyers said.

Dahlke went to the same hospital by private vehicle to be checked out.

Both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Members of the Kansas Dept. of Transportation directed traffic while crews worked to clear the scene, the Sheriff’s Office added.

The rush-hour wreck slowed traffic on the Lyon Co. highway for drivers headed to work Monday morning.
