TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A new study puts Topeka among the top cities in the nation for drivers with DUI's.
The auto insurance comparison web site, Insurify, studied car insurance application data to find out how many drivers reported being cited for driving under the influence in the past seven years. Then, they compared that to the total number of drivers in the city.
Nationally, 3.03 percent of drivers had at least one prior DUI.
Topeka ranked as the city with the 20th-highest percentage at 3.45 percent.
Topping the list was Loveland, Colorado, with 6.59 percent of drivers reporting a prior DUI violation.
In Kansas, 22 percent of driving-related deaths are alcohol related.
Nationally in 2017, 29 percent of motor vehicle fatalities involved at least one driver with a blood alcohol content level of .08 or higher.
