Topeka man jailed after police chase in stolen car

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) A Topeka man is facing charges after leading police on a short chase through town in a stolen vehicle.

Topeka Police say Travis Wolverton, 26, of Topeka was arrested after he crashed the car he was driving into a tree and power pole in the 2200 block of SW Fairlawn.

Lt. Ron Ekis says a Topeka Police Officer noticed Wolverton driving a stolen Chevrolet Impala around 3:39 a.m. near Huntoon and SW Fairlawn.

When the officer tried to pull the car over, it sped away.

Wolverton was not injured in the crash, however, TPD says an 18-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Wolverton was booked into the Shawnee Co. Department of Corrections for felony fleeing and eluding, felony possession of stolen property and other various traffic violations.

Some residents near SW 21st and Fairlawn reported power outages associated with the downed pole. Westar crews were on-scene early Tuesday repairing the utility pole, and restoring power.
