TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Four-legged friends and their loving human counterparts took part in a blessing of the animals on Sunday.
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka celebrated animals that have enriched their lives in a service Sunday morning.
Congregation members were encouraged to bring in a token of their animal or bring their animal in if they are well behaved enough.
There were multiple dogs and a kitten in attendance. The service included a blessing of the animals, as well as songs and prayer reflecting on the joy pets bring us.
"One woman said she got her dog when she was in a very deep depression and people talked about how the attention and focus of their animals saved their lives,” Congregation member Janine Silsvy said.
Members were also encouraged to fill the blessing box with toys, collars, leashes, and treats for families may not be able to afford it.
