TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The City of Topeka and Shawnee County are working together to make roadways accessible and safer for everyone.

Multiple county employees presented guidelines for the Complete Street plan with County Commissioners Wednesday morning. Complete Streets is a list of guidelines for roads, sidewalks and crosswalks in both the city and county that make it safer for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Some of those guidelines include bicycle lanes and changes to sidewalks.

The Director of Public Works for the county says it would improve quality of life for everyone in the area.

"I mean it makes pedestrians, the interaction between pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles friendlier," Curt Niehaus said. "It makes a safer environment. It encourages use of bicycles and walking. It gives people choices."
