TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - People aren't the only ones devouring goodies this Easter season.

The Topeka Zoo hosted their annual Eggstravaganza Hunt for the animals on Saturday, hiding different treats in the shape of an egg.

The African Painted Dogs were especially active and playful with their eggs which were actually colorful cantaloupe.

Monkeys picked through paper mache eggs filled with popcorn, and as you can see the African lions were completely exhausted after ripping open their treats.

"It's just fun for the kids to be able to look at eggs and get in the Easter spirit for the little ones." Attendee Traci Stevenson said.

Zoo officials say the eggs serve as good enrichment for the animals.

Next Saturday (4/20) they'll host earth day at the zoo.
