TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Mechanical issues are causing the Topeka Police Department to auction off a tactical vehicle they bought for more than $425,000 two years ago.

The truck will be up for bid on with a starting bid of about $217,000.

City Spokesperson Molly Hadfield says the vehicle was bought on August 3rd, 2016, for over $426,000. About $208,000 of that money came from a special law enforcement fund and the rest came from the city's general fund.

Hadfield says the truck had a lot of use but is expensive to maintain. It has frequent mechanical failures that are costly to fix. There is also a $20,000 annual warranty.

Hadfield says overall, selling the tactical vehicle will save the city thousands of dollars in warranty and repair costs.
