Topeka Metro celebrates the 65th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision

A Topeka Metro Bus has a new design ahead of the 65th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision.
The bus is wrapped with the artwork from the Brown v. Board mural.
Topeka Metro was awarded a grant from ArtsConnect to create the wrap for the bus. Organizers said this a way for the community to support and see a big part of Topeka’s history.
“This will be a fun bus to have on the streets. And just get people to get more interest in going to the Brown v. Board Historic Site and see the mural itself because it’s breathtaking,” Keri Renner with Topeka Metro added.
The unveiling of the bus will be on Friday, May 10th at the first BVB event, "Brown v. Board 1954: Hear Our Voices," symposium featuring community members from 1954. This event is at the Topeka Performing Arts Center from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The bus will be in service again in three free public arts bus tours and four free public history bus tours throughout the following 10 days of events.
Topeka Metro has requested sponsorships to keep the bus wrapped for a period of two years.
