Topeka High's boys basketball team will have a new leader at the helm come the 2019-20 season.

On Thursday night, the Topeka Unified School District 501 board approved former Kansas City-Washington head coach Eric King to take over for the Trojans.

King spent 15 seasons at Washington, leading the team to multiple state tournament berths. In 2011, King's Wildcats appeared in the Class 5A state championship and made back-to-back appearances in 2015 and 2016--the latter of which featured a third place finish.

Last season, the Wildcats posted a 14-8 record and won the Kansas City Atchison League championship for the seventh time in the past nine years.

Topeka High went 35-9 over the past two seasons, finishing 2018-19 at 18-3 and winning the Centennial League.

According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, Denney was approved as the new head boys coach at Shawnee Mission North this week.
