TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The holiday season started with the Cortez's Grand Lighting Ceremony on Saturday.
This is the 5th year that the Cortez family invites the community to the holiday light show.
All the lights are synchronized to Christmas songs and for the first time this year the neighboring houses are joined in.
The show began around 6:30pm Saturday evening, lasting for about 30 minutes.
Families had the chance to enjoy the show with hot chocolate and cookies, along with fireworks.
Louie Cortez says the show went off without a hit and he looks forward to adding on to the show next year.
"Kicking off tonight, the show went really great, we had a great turn out, the most we had ever," Cortez emphasized.
"If you want to come out and view the show, it's free for you to come. In the future I want to get the whole entire neighborhood lit up. We have my neighbors across the street they're in on it now and the neighbors on the corner they're all for it."
The holiday light show will continue to run on Sunday through Thursday from 6pm to 10pm and on Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 11pm.
The show is located at 3919 southeast 30th terrace.
