TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka teenager whose battle with brain cancer was followed by hundreds of people through social media has passed away.

Riley Pfannenstiel, 18, graduated from Topeka High School with honors just last month. His mother, Patti Elliott, said he was determined to appear on stage to accept his diploma.

He passed away Tuesday night.

In a page on the Facebook post updating his fight, his mother wrote Riley "was a warrior until his very last breath."

"I held his head in my hands and prayed the rosary in his ear and he slipped peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by his family and friends. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers in the coming days. I am eternally grateful for each of you and your love for my son."

Funeral arrangements are being finalized with Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chape. His family requests memorials to Ronald McDonald House, Great Lakes Caring Hospice, Children's Mercy Hospital, or Kids Wish Network.
