TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A generating facility in Tecumseh is being torn down after the facility was retired in October.

The Tecumseh Energy Center is expected to be demolished by the end of this year. One of the boilers was brought down last month.

The plant's closing is due to Westar Energy's merger with Great Plains Energy.

Last year, most of the workers were offered positions at Jeffrey Center in St. Mary's, with others relocating the the Lawrence Plant.

The facility was first commissioned in 1925.
