TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- More than 20 Topeka Public Schools teachers got some help providing extras for their classrooms.
The Topeka Public Schools Foundation's "Grant Patrol" made several surprise visits to TPS buildings and surprised select educators with the funding they requested.
We caught up with Karla Lero - a music teacher at Lowman Hills Elementary.
She plans to use the money she received to buy puppets for her students.
She says it will take the focus off the kids, enabling them to explore music more freely.
"This is an amazing opportunity for my kids,” Lero said. “It gives them an opportunity to explore music, and do a good job without the focus being on them, they can focus on the puppets.”
20 grants were approved for a total of $16,819 across the district.
