TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Topeka Public Schools Chief of Police says safety comes first when dropping of kids on the first day of the year.
Ron Brown says their main concern at the start of the year is for parents to understand the school's traffic plan when dropping off and picking up their children. He says if parents don't understand the plan it creates traffic for the adults and their kids.
Brown says student safety is the number one priority.
"The bottom line is we are working to ensure the safety of our children as they arrive to school in the morning and they get picked up in the afternoon," Brown said. "We know that sometimes we're in a hurry because we're trying to get home from work, we're trying to get to work in the morning, we have a lot of other things going on but please take that extra to follow the direction of the staff at the schools and support their traffic plan."
Brown also reminds parents to take first day of school pictures at home and not stop other cars by doing it during drop off.
