TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Detective Charles Wilson was named as the Safe Streets Coalition’s Champion of Character for November.
Wilson arrived on the scene of a car accident at 6th and Kansas Ave. July 24. There, he pulled an unresponsive woman out of her car and saved her life with CPR.
Detective Wilson said he just did what he is supposed to do.
"We're supposed to be helping people, we're here to try and do what we can,” Wilson said. “With that, and seeing the lady turn blue, it's just, you do what you're supposed to do. It was the first thing that came to mind, said 'hey, this is not just going to be compressions, we have to do something else.’"
Every month, Safe Streets recognizes a Champion of Character for their attentiveness, responsibility, compassion, and decisiveness.
