TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Officers and firefighters from the Topeka Police Department - the Kansas Highway Patrol - the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office and Topeka Fire Department competed in flag-football games at Washburn's Yager Stadium for this year's Battle of the Badges.

The annual battle of the badges event brings first-responders together off the clock for some friendly competition...

It's not just about the game - all proceeds from a silent auction go directly to the Special Olympics.

Each team had the chance to face off - KHP ultimately beat TPD in double overtime, but lost to the Topeka Fire Department.

Sergeant Dan Wilson with the Topeka Police Department has organized Battle of the Badge for the last 12 of the competition’s 15 years.

He says he wasn't disappointed by the loss.

“We lost but you know Special Olympics is the winner today, it doesn't matter who wins the games."

After multiple games between the teams - the Topeka Fire Department was ultimately victorious in the flag-football competition.
