Topeka Fire donation designed to encourage new firefighters

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka Fire Dept. made a donation to help inspire a new generation of firefighters Tuesday.

TFD donated equipment that they are replacing to a program that trains students in fire and emergency services.

The program, which is part of the Topeka Center for Advanced Learning and Careers, exposes students to careers they may not have thought about before, like firefighting.

With their newly acquired equipment, instructor and former firefighter Greg Bailey said the students can physically apply their lessons now.

"The equipment: some ladders, fans, tarp covers; will allow our students to get some hands-on or practical uses or applications of the lessons associated with the particular pieces of equipment," Bailey said.

TFD also gave the students a tour of a fire truck and taught them about all of the equipment on it.
