TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Investigators are questioning what sparked an East Topeka house fire Wednesday afternoon.
They have not determined what caused the blaze at 2801 SE 6th Street, but they are calling it "suspicious in nature."
Firefighters responded to the one story structure around 4 p.m. and could see smoke and flames coming from villa #7 as they arrived., the Topeka Fire Dept. said. Crews forced their way inside and determined it was vacant.
They were able to get the fire under control quickly. Nobody was hurt putting it out, TFD added.
Investigators estimated the fire did about $5,000 in damage to the building and another $300 to its contents.
