TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — Investigators from the Topeka Fire Dept. are saying an early afternoon house fire was intentionally set.

According to TFD, their firefighters responded to reports of the blaze, in the 300 block of SW Polk Street, near downtown Topeka. As they pulled up to the home, the firefighters reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the second story of the wood-framed home.

They attacked the fire and were able to get it under control quickly, TFD says. A search of the home found no one inside, they added.

The preliminary investigation revealed it was intentionally set, with the fire likely having multiple points of origin. They estimated the smoke and flames caused about $4,000 in damages to the structure of the home.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 or 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
