Sweet snacks from Bakers Dozen help support the community

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka donut shop rolled and raised a ton of dough to help local kids.

Baker’s Dozen presented Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shawnee County a check for $1,228 Thursday afternoon. The funds were from the sale of 1,228 “Big Boxes,” where they donated one dollar for each box sold during the month of February.

This is the 7th year Baker’s Dozen has turned their “Big Box” of donuts into dollars for Big Brothers Big Sisters. 13 NEWS This Morning Anchor Chris Fisher, who is a member of the agency’s Community Leadership Council, helped promote the event.

Owner Jake Wall says it's all about supporting Topeka.

"You live in this community, your kids go to school, your churches are here. Everything in the community you enjoy so you should definitely give back," he said.

Wall said he couldn’t have made all those donuts without the hard work and support of his family and staff.
