Stolen truck found burning in Jackson Co.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A pickup truck that was stolen in Topeka was found burning in southern Jackson Co. late Thursday morning.

The Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office says they were alerted to the truck fire around 11:45 a.m. Deputies and members of the Hoyt and Mayetta Fire Depts. responded to scene, outside of Hoyt, and were able to get the blaze under control.

The 1995 Dodge Ram 3500, however, was considered a total loss.

The Sheriff's Office says it was stolen Wednesday. Sheriff Tim Morse did not release details of the theft, but did remind drivers to make sure they don't leave their keys in their vehicles and to keep the doors locked.

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident.
