TOPEKA (WIBW)--- The state school board recognized Lee Elementary in Manhattan as a 2018 'Blue Ribbon School.'
Lee Elementary was one of six Kansas schools to receive Blue Ribbon designation. Principal Mindy Sanders was on hand to accept the recognition, but says she can't take all of the credit.
"I think we were chosen because number one: we have a great community. Number two; we have lots of grit. And, number 3: we love on our kids," Sanders said. "I think that's what it takes to be a great school and I think the Lee community does that."
The Blue Ribbon is based on a school's overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among students. The award is only given to 500 schools nationwide.
