TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A patient at St. Francis reportedly smuggled a weapon into the hospital and shot themself early Friday afternoon.
Authorities told 13 NEWS they were alerted to the shooting around 1:30 p.m. when Topeka police officers and the CSI team were called to the scene. A police spokesperson said the patient did not die from the gunshot wound.
The patient took the weapon into the hospital in a duffel bag, authorities said.
Police said there was no danger to the public.
St. Francis did not comment on where the shooting happened inside the facility.
