MARSHALL, Texas (KWCH) -- A car crash in Texas on Wednesday killed two Kansas college students.

The Marshall News Messenger reports the crash happened US on Highway 59 North and Loop 390, near Marshall, Texas.

Jacobi Scott and Shelvin Keller were traveling home from summer break when the crash occurred, Southwestern College President Brad Andrews said.

Andrews said Keller, who is from La Place, Louisiana, was a first-year student and running back on the Builder football team. He referred to Keller as a "wonderful presence."

Scott, from Denham Spring, Louisiana, transferred to Southwestern last fall from Grambling University. He was a quarterback and had assumed a leadership position on the team this spring. He was majoring in computer science and digital arts.

"We are working today to support Shelvin and Jacobi’s friends, teammates, and family members at Southwestern and beyond," Andrews said. "Our hearts and our prayers go out to Shelvin and Jacobi’s families during this difficult time.

Marshall Fire Chief Reggie Cooper says the crash is under investigation.
